Lake Worth Beach is one incorporated city. It was incorporated as Lake Worth in 1913, and its voters approved the name Lake Worth Beach in March 2019.

"Lake Worth" is also a mailing address, and it covers a much larger area to the west, much of it unincorporated Palm Beach County. The City's own parking page puts it plainly: a home can have a Lake Worth Beach mailing address from the Post Office without being inside the city. So a listing that says "Lake Worth" may be in the city, in unincorporated Palm Beach County, or near another municipality.

Why it matters:

• Actual location. An address outside the city may be several miles inland, not near downtown Lake Worth Beach or the City beach.
• Local government and services. Inside the city, the City of Lake Worth Beach handles zoning, permits, code enforcement and services such as trash collection. In unincorporated areas, Palm Beach County and its agencies do.
• Utilities. The City's electric utility serves some addresses outside city limits too, including parts of the Village of Palm Springs and unincorporated Palm Beach County, according to a 2025 Moody's rating summary published by the Florida Municipal Electric Association. The provider depends on the address, not the city name.
• Taxes. The tax bill depends on the millage for the parcel's jurisdiction. Compare actual tax bills or Property Appraiser estimates, not general rules.
• City programs. Some City resident programs, such as the beach parking permit, are limited to addresses inside city limits.
• Search results. A home search for "Lake Worth" usually mixes city and county addresses.

Lake Worth Beach. An older coastal city on a street grid first platted in 1912, with a downtown along Lake and Lucerne Avenues. It sits on the mainland shore of the Lake Worth Lagoon, and its City beach is across the Intracoastal. Unincorporated "Lake Worth" areas. These are governed by Palm Beach County, not a city. Development patterns, housing types and association structures vary widely from one area to the next, so treat each subdivision on its own terms. Check for HOA or condo documents, which utilities serve the address, and the county zoning.

Atlantis. The City of Atlantis received its charter on June 19, 1959. It describes itself as a gated golf-course municipality of about 1.5 square miles, bounded by major roads and about six miles from the Atlantic. Palm Springs. The Village of Palm Springs was incorporated in 1957. The Village says its first section opened in August 1958 with about 800 homes, and that its boundaries have grown considerably since the late 1990s. Because of that growth, housing age varies. Lantana. The Town of Lantana, just south of Lake Worth Beach, was incorporated in 1921 and covers about 3 square miles. It describes itself as a coastal community that keeps the character of its origins as an old Florida fishing village.
